5-Line Heavyweight Striped Bass Trolling Spread
Umbrella Rigs, two 12oz
Tandem Rigs, two 3oz/9oz
Daisy Chains, one 9oz
While this can be considered a beginner or small boat spread, it is also an ideal expansion package to what you already have. Most anglers start here when first getting into fishing for Striped Bass. I know many bay anglers today that swear that this is all they need. On a small spread like this, consistency and high production rigs like Tandem rigs, daisy chains and Umbrella rigs with Parachutes Jigs are important. If you have downriggers, we would recommend that you use them on the short umbrella rig lines. Set them for 30 to 40 feet deep and run the line lengths back as indicated, usually 30 to 50 feet. Exact line length will change with type of boat and sea conditions. You will have to experiment to determine what works best. What is important is that when a line gets hit, you can put another one back out at the exact distance. This is where our Line Counter Bay Trolling reels come in handy. If you don't have a line counter reel, you will have to come up with a method like counting the number of times the bar on a level wind moves across the reel, or mark your line every 25 feet. No matter what method you choose, you will need a note pad to keep it all straight! We have divided our spread package into light, middle and heavy weight spreads. this will allow you to build a spread that targets the seasonal migration patterns of striped bass.
