Deep Drop Tackle

Reel Draggin' Tackle Deep Drop Rig & Jigs

Our Charter boat, the Canyon Draggin' and our test boat Hanu as well as the Charter Boat Muff Diver spend a lot of time on the edge deep dropping for Golden Tile and short dropping for Blue Lines. We have tried many deep rigs over the last five years. What you see here are a lot of lessons learned. These are top quality rigs and they are exactly what we use.

We recomend the 3x circle hooks when you are fishing in water over 500 feet where you are likely to encounter 50# and over fish. The 6/0 through 9/0 are 1x wire circles. They are good hooks, we use the 8/0 inline for White Marlin for example. We like these hooks for wreck fishing and in general, any depths less than 500 to 600 feet. The smaller Tile Fish and bottom dwellers hit the bait hard, but the 3x circles tend to not consistantly hook into the mouth of these smaller fish.

Basic Deep Drop Rigs, skirted or not, available in 2, 3, or 5 hook rigs.

This is a simple multi hook and mono rig. Simple and effective.
Leader is 200# or 150# premium mono
The 1 and 2-hook rig is about 36 inches long
The 3 rig is about 52 inches long
The 5 rig is about 72 inches long
